Juventus Snatch Thrilling Tie After Goal-Filled Second Period Showdown Against Borussia Dortmund
British defender L. Kelly netted a leveler in the sixth minute of added time to rescue a draw for Juventus after a thrilling goal-laden second half in Turin against Borussia.
The Defender’s Redemption After Penalty Mistake
Defender Kelly – signed from Newcastle this offseason – conceded a penalty to allow the visitors to go 4-2, before he followed up Dusan Vlahovic's 94th-minute equaliser by heading home a delivery from the Serbia striker two minutes.
Quiet Opening Leads to Scoring Frenzy
Neither side produced much of note during the first 45 minutes while they cancelled each other out in the middle.
The first half failed to excite viewers, but those who persisted were treated to a burst of thrilling action in the second half – as Juventus fought back on three occasions, with eight goals scored after the 51st minute.
This marks only the second-ever UCL match in which eight scores were netted in one half, after the second half of Bayern Munich's 9-2 victory against Zagreb last season.
Rollercoaster Second Half
Karim Adeyemi put Dortmund ahead the first goal after he expertly shifted possession just outside the area and guided it past the keeper.
Dortmund stepped up in front of goal, but, little over 10 minutes after, a moment of brilliance from Juve from Kenan Yildiz ended with the young star curling a wonderful effort top bins from range.
Under 120 seconds passed before Dortmund were again in front, as Nmecha delivering another sublime shot when he curled a one-time strike into the top corner.
But the drama continued with further twists around the corner, with Vlahovic slotted home in a breakaway under later to level again.
Stoppage-Time Heroics
After surrendering their advantage on two occasions, BVB seized the lead again as Couto, sprinting into the penalty area, drilled a powerful shot inside the post, just beyond the dive of Michele di Gregorio.
Bensebaini extended Dortmund's lead from the penalty spot when ex- England Under-21 international Kelly touched the ball in his box.
However Vlahovic fired a last-gasp shot off the woodwork before setting up ex- club back Kelly to seal a late draw.
