Kansas City Chiefs Confirm Alleged Abuse Claims Involving Wide Receiver the Athlete
The Kansas City Chiefs released a comment on Wednesday evening indicating they are aware of domestic violence allegations made public in social media posts by a ex-partner of wide receiver Rashee Rice and were in communication with the league office.
The team did not mention Rice by name in their statement and noted they would have “no further comment at this time”.
Claims Posted on Instagram
The woman, who likewise did not name Rice directly, posted a series of photos on social media that appeared to show indicators of bodily harm. She stated the person involved was the father of her children, and reports indicate she has kids with Rice, whom the Chiefs selected in the second round.
Official Complaints Reportedly Not on File
No police reports were on file in Overland Park, Kansas where the alleged abuse is said to have occurred.
Rice's Prior Legal Issues
The receiver missed the first six games of this NFL campaign following an league-mandated ban for his role in instigating a multi-vehicle accident on a Texas roadway that resulted in several individuals injured. Rice was given a month of incarceration and five years’ probation after pleading guilty to serious offenses.
Statistically, he finished the season with 53 catches for 571 yards and five touchdowns as the Kansas City finished with a losing record and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first occasion in a decade.
